RICHARD FOGLESONG is the George and Harriet Cornell Professor of Political Science Emeritus at Rollins College, where he joined the faculty in 1984. He is also a former political analyst for WFTV-Ch.9 in Orlando.
His most recent book is Immigrant Prince: Mel Martinez and the American Dream. He is also the author of Married to the Mouse: Walt Disney World and Orlando, published by Yale University Press, and Planning the Capitalist City, a history of American urban planning, published by Princeton University Press.
Professor Foglesong was the first recipient of Rollins’ Bornstein Scholar Award honoring the faculty member whose scholarship has contributed most to the national reputation of the college.
He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he was a Ford Foundation Fellow. Besides teaching at Rollins, he has taught at Hong Kong University, where he was a Fulbright Scholar; UCLA, where he was the Harvey Perloff professor of urban planning; and Amherst College, where he began his career in 1978.
He is a frequent commentator in the local and national news media on topics related to tourism and the history of Walt Disney World. Locally, he chaired the MetroPlan-Orlando citizens advisory commission, in addition to serving on numerous other boards and commissions.
