August 28: Harry Paarsch Ph.D. The Impact of Tariffs

Born in Ashcroft, British Columbia, Canada, Paarsch is Professor of Business Analytics at the University of Central Florida. From 2011 until 2014, he worked as an applied economist and data scientist for Amazon.com, Inc. in Seattle. Prior to joining Amazon, Paarsch was Chair in Economics at the University of Melbourne, where he remains a principal fellow. Paarsch has also held appointments at the University of British Columbia and the University of Western Ontario as well as the University of Iowa, and has been a visiting professor at Aarhus Universitet, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Helsingin yliopisto, the University of New South Wales, Stanford University, and the University of Victoria. He was the Arch W.~Shaw National Fellow at the Hoover Institution as well as a visiting scholar at the Institut d'Economie Industrielle, the Instituto de Analisis Economico (CSIS), the Center for Economic Institutions in the Institute of Economic Research at Hitotsubashi University, the Collegio Carlo Alberto, and the Gary Becker Milton Friedman Institute for Research in Economics at The University of Chicago. Trained in economics and statistics at Stanford University, his main researchh has concerned auctions. In general, however, he is an applied, empirical microeconomist with interests in labor and personnel economics as well as industrial organization and business analytics
