Updates from Second Harvest Food Bank – Derrick Chubbs, CEO

Hybrid Meeting – June, 1, 2023

For the past year, Derrick Chubbs has served as the President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida (SHFB); leading the $180 million non-profit focused on addressing hunger and its root causes in the diverse 7- county Central Florida region. It is estimated that more than 500,000 individuals, families, and children in this area do not know where they will find their next healthy meal. A team of 160 employees, thousands of volunteers, and over 600 partner agencies work diligently to help these friends and neighbors by providing approximately 300,000 meals each day.

Prior to SHFB, Derrick served as President and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin, Texas – the largest hunger relief agency in Central Texas, serving 21 counties.

Before joining the food bank network in November of 2016, Derrick spent nearly 10 years with the American Red Cross, where he served as National Vice President for Disaster Workforce Readiness, Division Vice President for the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Division (he was responsible for operations across nine states in this role), and Regional CEO of the American Red Cross of Central Texas.

Derrick spent over 15 years in the for-profit technology industry before following his heart and shifting to the non-profit sector. During that time in his career, he held leadership positions with IBM, Pervasive Software, and Dell.

Derrick has served on numerous boards and has been recognized as one of the “50 Most Powerful Philanthropy & Community Voices” by Orlando Magazine and was celebrated as an honoree at Onyx Magazine’s “Men of Honor” event. He has received honors from the Seedling Foundation, the “Integrity Award” from Austin 1st Tee, “Legend of the Year Award” from the 4ATX Foundation (Austin Soccer Team), The “Austin Hero Award” from CultureMap, “Executive of the Year” from The DivInc Foundation, and a host of others.

Derrick holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from The University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.

He, his wife Loly, and lovable hound Einstein reside in Longwood.
