Bruce Horovitz is a lifelong resident of Florida who, among other interests, is a lover of music and writing.

He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Journalism from Boston University’s School of Communication in 1976.

Upon graduation, he was hired by the Jacksonville Journal, where he covered crime, politics, health care, and entertainment. Bruce was the recipient of the Florida Medical Association’s First Place Award for Excellence in Medical Journalism based on a five-part series that broke the news of Mayo Clinic’s interest in bringing a satellite facility to Northeast Florida.

He was also the recipient of several awards from the Florida Press Club.

He has extensive experience in the non-profit and the business community and has continued to serve on several non-profit boards and as a jurist for the Florida Book Awards.

His first book, “Gamble Rogers: A Troubadour’s Life” (University Press of Florida, 2018) was the recipient of the Charlton Tebeau Award from the Florida Historical Society and was awarded the 2018 Bronze Medal for nonfiction by the Florida Book Awards.

Horovitz lives with his family in Jacksonville, FL, where he serves on several non-profit boards while pursuing his musical interests by playing in two bands.

He is married to his childhood sweetheart and has two adult sons and five grandchildren, all living in Jacksonville.
